How not to ask for customer service in SL

A designer selling a sweet Mommy & Family Follower product received a rather rude notecard. If you don’t know what a follower is, it is exactly as the name implies. A follower will allow you to have the person of your choice “follow” your avatar around in SL.

This is the notecard that she received from a customer after being on vacation for a few days:

Stepahnie, First off, where in the hell do you get off talking to your customers the way that you do? It’s only 99 fucking lindens which evidentially means a lot more to you than it does to me. Secondly, I could give give a fuck about your 1000 customers and the reviews that looks as if they were all written by the same person …YOU. Third of all, I have a HUGE following in SL due to what I do in RL and I’m going to let everyone know that you are not the person to purchase from because your’re damn ignorant ass fool that sell crappy ass broke down bullshit. I tried to be nice and give you the benefit of the doubt to be a decent person and do right by me, but I see you can’t comprehend that. My computer crappy? I think not. I told your simple no spelling trailer park ass that I logged him on myself and I don’t have a lag issue nor does the sim that I live on.  I never came at you wrong, even after the first time that you blatantly  sent me a sarcastic ass response to my first message. You need to learn how to talk to people if you’re going to be in business dealing with PEOPLE who are spending RL MONEY with your retarded ass. 99L is only 60 cents in rl so keep it boo and I hope it can pay your tier, rl rent or whatever your 3rd world country living ass choose to do with it.  Stupid bitch!

    I use it everyday, I have about 1000 customers for this product. And you should read the TOs of my store, “no transfer product, no refund”.
    And about my product, it’s more than perfect, this script is probably the best follower of SL.

    I wonder, you’re “The mommy” ?
    Is that right ?

    So the mommy follower, is designed for the lids.
    You have to buy the Follower for your kid, not for you.

    “Mommy Follower” mean, to follow a mommy, not the contrary.

    If you’ll look at the transaction you’ll see where it has ‘gifted’ to rjjkenyon so I dont have the mommy follower on me and I did not transfer it to my kid it was bought for him and sent to him via xstreet. I am asking you if there’s a kink as to why he’s runnning in place, sinking into the floors etc. I made sure everything was rezzed before I used it. I logged in as him to make sure it would work properly. If it cant be fixed then I would like a refund, but perferrably I’d rather have a working hud. I pasted the transaction info below again showing where it was ‘gifted’.

    On many resident's profiles we can see this on the picks or the profile:
    "Chat/IMs may be recorded and shared. Stating this releases me from liability per SL TOS."
    That means they think they can share our convo or im, without impunity.
    It's illegal.
    That againist the TOS.

    My question for Linden Lab "Is it illegal to write that ?"
    The answer of Linden Lab is" It's illegal because their disclaimers do not supersede the rules of Linden Lab."
    I have asked them "but where to find the TOS part about it"

I bought the product for me and my mother and yes, I had probs with mine at first as well but I was able to fix it by re-attaching it. You on the other hand could have supported your product by telling her what she needed to do to fix it.     Mslediva is the most rude customers we can meet on SL.
    I have a customer like her, every 6 month, I don’t complaint so much.
    I send this notecard, to Ruthed, Because, it’s a real shame to be rude like her, especially when the product don’t have any problem.
    We’re on holiday, I suspect them, both, to be underage. Because they act like 2 immatures persons. :)

    To be rude like her, is it a solution ? I don’t think so. Never I have insulted her. But she did it. And that’s a shame, especially when the creator work hard and care about the customers and products.

    Genevieve & Mslediva are just two Trolls.
    Genevieve said it herself “she don’t care to be rude and to get banned”.
    That confirm, their bad attitudes :)

  8. Ok, your both at fault here IMO. The creator should have at least tried to see what the problem was virtual face to face. She was probably right about it being laggy/ their connection was weak etc. I didn’t find that part really insulting. And the customer did flip and start calling names which is never ok. Cussing cause your upset just makes you look immature and wont get your problem fixed. Also, the creator broke TOS also by coping what you said and posting it on the blog. So really if you get banned for it she will too. If she reported you, I suggest reporting her. I think it’s really silly that she wants to ban you because you gave her a bad review. Also, it’s VERY common in sl to not give refunds for no trans items. I never do, and I never expect one if I buy no trans things.

    Which also makes me wonder why the blog admin accepted this post in the first place, as it was very clear that the crucial part of the whole thing was missing.

    And to threaten someone to report them with the intention to get them banned is like threatening someone RL to kill them. Stephanie basically throws around with threats to kill people. If someone overreacts in such an over-boarding way to such a banality it tells a lot about their RL background, their anger management problems, their mental capacity for social interaction. People like Stephanie we have a lot in SL and they appear to be the sweetest persons, but a little word can send them totally over the edge.
    I am afraid of such mentally unstable persons …

Stephanie’s customer service was atrocious and deserved the response she got. I only hope her sales suffer from this story. If not, I’m sure it will eventually with an attitude like hers.

  13. First off, SL ToS can only be covered and governed INSIDE SL. So both of you bitching about violating ToS OUTSIDE SL, just stop it already! It makes you both look like idiots who can’t read the actual Terms of Service. Second, any creator who sells something has an obligation to support that product, regardless. Once the customer shows you the purchase history and informs you it’s not working right, you try and find out what’s wrong, you don’t assume ANYTHING. You especially don’t get an attitude and treat your customers like crap for asking you to ensure that your product is actually working correctly when it’s not providing the advertised results. If you don’t like customers reviewing your product, stop making things in SL and GTFO. Seriously! As far as the customer, you tried to resolve it before losing your temper, I understand that, but losing your cool to the point of sinking to her level? Sad, and it made you look like a child. Frustration I can understand, and I can see how you felt insulted, but all that cursing was not necessary, especially not over something that cost 99L. There are more important things in life to focus on. Ignore this idiot and continue on your way.

    The truth here, the product is perfect and she wanted to have her moneys back.

    What I try to mean there, we meet a tons of people like her, to trying a product and to ask a refund and that’s a shame and rude.
    Their rules are simple, if we don’t refund them, we got insults and they write shits on marketplace.
    I’m pro with a good customers service, for that reason I have never a bad review like the one she did earlier.

    So i was insulted there by this girl named Genevieve Mhia.
    And she came back without impunity to purchase my product on marketplace. Like nothing.
    I did a website, to handle the customer service. Well there too, she did a big flood on it.

    For her is just a question of moneys ? But now way, all creators on sl, has feeling and they’re real so. I don’t think she does the same thing on the real life.
    But we don’t have any frontier between the RL and SL.
    You do a bullshit, you give the apologizes, the person accept, and get help.
    Most of the people can understand, just a few will not, because they’re rude, for real, and they will stay rude along their life. And that’s sad :)

  20. What’s even more crazier is the fact that Stephanie still insists that the chat was modded in some sort of fashion. Can we post snap shots of the chat on this site? What’s even more crazier on my end is that I actually purchased a car from Stephanie by mistake. YES, BY MISTAKE. I did not look at the seller of the product and that is truly my bad. But what’s further insulting is that Stephanie wants someone to apologize and kiss her butt in order for support. I don’t care if this is SL or RL, you don’t get an apology from me when you were rude from jump start. And how ironic is it that the creators are allowed to get bad reviews removed where they were truly warranted. Either way, Stephanie as I told you in the IM this morning, it’s not being rude, it’s called being honest and if you can’t accept honesty from a buyer, then you’re in the wrong business-point blank. I don’t care how many of your friends you get to post positive reviews about you. You’re a creator, so you should expect the good, bad, and the ugly. Simple as that. But I will go through LL to get my product re-delivered as you stated. Take my advice and learn a bit of customer service and some humility as well.

  21. First off the person who writes this blog really needs to go learn about the rules of journalism. It is not acceptable to write just whatever you pull out of your ass without researching it. Doesn’t that excerpt seem to be missing something? I mean are you so busy kissing up to Stephanie you disregard logic? Second… this is not the first and certainly not last complaint regarding Stephanie and her business practices, as seen on this blog: http://randomim.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html you can see she really sees people as little more than pennies in her pocket. She is one of the most self absorbed persons I have had the unfortunate circumstance to meet on the grid. She only will talk with you if you are “someone” and only if you basically tell her how she is the best builder-posemaker-whatever that has ever logged onto SL. Mind you if you look through her marketplace you will see she has talent for making lovely poses and has an eye for making natural scenes. But lets not turn a blind eye to her blatant copying of mainstream toys from the likes of fisher price. I am certain if the corporate offices knew that she was profiting from their products in such a manner she would be slapped with a lawsuit the likes she has never seen in her pathetic life. She really needs to wake up and realize that her days are numbered in SL,l she has burned so many bridges with people she really has no idea.

    Sweetie a piece of advice, any good business class would teach you that the customer is always right and in the end it is THEIR money they are spending they should get exactly what they paid for. You know your tot items are crap or you wouldnt be updating that godawful hud every other day so perhaps take some humility, stop being so damn concieted and respect the customer. In the end I dont think it will save your SL but perhaps slow down the abuse tickets I am sure people file on you.

  22. 1) The first sentence of the notecard that was cited there made it obvious that you were missing something and as the person who commented above stated, you shouldn’t have published this until you’d gotten both sides of the story. After all the phrase ” Stepahnie, First off, where in the hell do you get off talking to your customers the way that you do?” flat out states that Stephanie was being rude which should have lead you to question the author of the notecard to get a balanced view from both sides.

    2) In regards to Stephanie’s attitude to customer service which seems to be ‘if you want help you have to be polite’ I would like to say that unless SL stores have vastly different rules from RL ones that is not how things are done. I have experience working in a RL store and I can tell you that the attitude towards customer service is “remain calm and try to be helpful even if the customers are rude”. More often than not, if you take that approach then in the end things will be sorted out and the customers usually apologise for the behaviour they exhibited while irritated afterwards.

  23. I agree. It sounds one sided. I’ve experienced agresiveness and rudenes and more from her and read about it fro other ppl. So pls I think we’d all like to read the other side of the convo. Everyone I’ve ever talked with about the owner of that store said she is rude, abrusive and more too. I feel bad that people get such terrible customer service and treatment.
